How Many Tiles Do I Need?

You never buy the exact floor area in tiles. Cuts around edges, mistakes, breakages and future repairs all mean you need extra, and that buffer is the wastage allowance.

For a simple straight lay, 10% is standard. Diagonal or patterned layouts waste more, so allow 15%. Lots of cuts, small rooms or natural stone with colour variation can need 20%.

Tiles are made in batches and the colour can vary slightly between them. Ordering all your tiles, plus spares, in one go from the same batch avoids a visible mismatch later.
